Product Review: Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

I'm going to begin this post and put it out there and say it's not better than sex, but as far as mascara's go, it hits the spot.

With a riskaaay name that grabs attention and creates interest, this mascara has been on my radar for a while now. I finally got round to purchasing it in the summer and we are now in March and I'm onto my second one. I'm very very pleased with this product, which is strange as I remember when I first used it I hated it; it didn't hold a curl and it left my lashes flat and clumpy and I was outraged! As I was in a rush and by that point in a huff I quickly darted out of the house and tried to forget my disappointment with the product I thought I'd just wasted £19 on.

The second time I used the mascara I was in no rush and I was able to get ready at a much more leisurely pace, which allowed me to go to my happy place which consists of loud music, singing to my hearts content and often breaking  away from the makeup for the occasional dance (yes I'm 23 and every now and again I'll have a solo dance in my bedroom.) As I was saying, I had more time to get ready and I was determined to play with this product and prove I hadn't made the wrong decision and I should have bought Benefits Roller Lash instead.

So play I did .... I first off began by curling my lashes with my Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler, and I know I should always curl my lashes, I know I should, but sometimes when I'm in a rush it's the easiest step to skip, which isn't very beauty-blogger appropriate of me, but I'm being honest. I then tried to connect with my inner Lisa Eldridge as she always says to wiggle your mascara wand into the root of your lash, so I did, and I repeated this step countless times. Once all the wiggling was done, I then began to focus my attention to the ends of the lashes and really build up the product. At this stage I was happier with the results I was seeing, compared to my original fail, but I wasn't seeing any Bambi/ Kim Kardashian eyelashes like I had hoped. With that, I left my eyelashes for a few minutes for the product to dry and then I reapplied, repeating the wiggling and building stages, and this for me is the key step to seeing the results I expected when I first purchased Better Than Sex .... you can have to wait and repeat.

I love this product for a whole host of reasons the main ones being the intense black colour it produces, the thickness and curl it gives to my pathetically boring lashes and I find this product doesn't transfer and it doesn't flake. I should add in a disclaimer to this post and mention my natural eyelashes are the worst of the worst they are short and straight and I've always struggled getting good results with them from mascara alone, therefore if I can get these type of results I can only imagine what would happen if you were endowed with natural goddess lashes. I feel it's important to stress that this product wont leave your lashes with lightly coated, natural lashes it produces a thicker, heavier result. Clumpy doesn't sound desirable and spider lashes make me think of the 80's, so I'll avoid those connotations when describing Better Than Sex, but my opinion is this isn't for those who prefer a natural look.

The packaging is lovely, I would say it doesn't stain or chip like some of my other products have and it can be easily cleaned if it was to become dirty. It is on the heavier side of the mascara scales, it wont effect anyone of course it won't, it's mascara packaging, but I thought I would note it regardless. So for those who travel a lot, fear not you may still purchase this beauty gem. The only negative critique I can say about this mascara is the size of the brush, as amazing as it is for the top lashes it proves to be a nightmare when I'm doing my bottom lashes. My concentration increases like there's no tomorrow and I sometimes even stop singing (serious stuff, I know,) whether I use the brush sideways like I assume it's intended to be used or I turn it upright to try and create a more precise application, I always get a lovely blob of product somewhere it's not meant to be, and it drives me mad. Normally by the time I'm onto my bottoms lashes all makeup stresses have passed, I've done an even eyeliner, my eye shadow is blended and winged and my false lashes are as close to my natural lash line as possible and I can sigh a sigh of relief, yet with Better Than Sex I'm holding that breath for longer than I would like.

That being said I'm a beauty junkie I have a collection of mascaras that can do a tidier job on my bottom lashes, and I think it's a small price to pay for the amazing results I do get. As I said it's that small of a price to pay I've repurchased it for a second time, Too Faced is a brand I'm excited to delve into and experiment with and I urge you all to go and try this lovely mascara product!
